BURLINGTON, VT – Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) issued the following statement in reaction to former President Donald Trump’s indictment by a grand jury in a Fulton County, Georgia, case investigating a criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election:

“Donald Trump’s apparent willingness to bend our democracy to its breaking point for his own personal gain is heartbreaking.

“The case outlined by DA Willis presents example after example of unacceptable behavior by the former president and his co-conspirators: deception, intimidation, and a total disregard for the sanctity of the vote.

“Just as I said following the former president’s first, second, and third indictments: no person is above the law.

“Everyone deserves a fair trial and a legal process free from interference. The justice system must be allowed to work its will.”
