WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a Senate Rules Committee meeting today, Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) helped advance a resolution that would allow for the en bloc confirmation of military promotions, bypassing Senator Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) holds on 378 military promotions. Sen. Tuberville’s block on military promotions has threatened our national security and put the lives of servicemembers and their families into chaos.
“For nine months, Senator Tuberville has ignored refused bipartisan calls to drop his holds on over 370 military promotions. This blockade undermines the sacrifice of our nation’s military leaders, jeopardizes the security of Americans at home and abroad, and hurts the families of servicemembers,” said Sen. Welch. “I was pleased to join my colleagues on the Rules Committee in taking the next step to restore order and end this recklessness.”
The resolution passed the Rules Committee today in a 9-7 vote. It now advances to the full Senate.
