SPRINGFIELD, VT – On Monday, Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, toured Mamava’s Springfield manufacturing facility. During the tour, Sen. Welch met with workers and leaders from Mamava about the importance of expanding protections and support systems for working and nursing parents across the country. 

“Making sure parents have the support and space they need to care for their children is crucial to creating healthy futures for them—something the leaders and workers at Mamava know firsthand,” said Sen. Welch. “Mamava is a Vermont success story. I saw how they’re working to provide resources and comfort for people who are breastfeeding, while also creating good manufacturing jobs here in Vermont. We can build on their success and do more to make parenting a little easier.” 

The PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act, signed into law by President Biden in 2022 and supported by Senator Welch during his time in the House, expands protections in the Break Time for Nursing Mothers Act to an additional 9 million breastfeeding employees not previously covered under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Sen. Welch also voted in favor of the passage of Friendly Airports for Mothers Improvement Act, which expands and mandates dedicated lactation areas for breastfeeding mothers in airports. 

Senator Welch was joined by leaders from Mamava, including Sascha Mayer, Co-founder, Chief Experience Officer; Christine Dodson, Co-founder, Chief Operating Officer; Joe Wright, VP, Manufacturing; and Mamava employees. 

Mamava is a women-founded manufacturing business and B Corp founded in Burlington, VT in 2013. The company opened a second facility in Springfield, VT, where they currently employ 20+ employees. The company creates freestanding lactation pods, providing breastfeeding parents with a comfortable and private space to nurse or pump. Founded in Burlington in 2013, the company is celebrating a decade in business. Over 4,000 Mamava pods are now found across all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
