WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this month, Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) joined the White House as it hosted 35 local elected officials and community leaders from across the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine as part of its ‘Communities in Action’ event series. During the forum, Biden-Harris Administration officials highlighted the impacts of the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and Inflation Reduction Act on communities across the three states.
Sen. Welch spoke about how investments in broadband, manufacturing, rural energy and infrastructure redevelopment are transforming the state and New England, creating good-paying jobs and opportunities for all Vermonters:
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s agenda is all about supporting and strengthening community, and what could be more important than that?” said Sen. Welch. “From day one, this White House has focused on creating opportunities – be it new jobs, new economic activity, or new investments in the next generation of America. It’s been a pleasure to work with the administration as we work to level the playing field, and give families in Vermont all of the opportunities they deserve.”
Participants included local elected officials, educators, businesses owners, disability advocates, and community organizers. Administration officials included Second Gentlemen of the United States Doug Emhoff, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough, Implementation Coordinator of the American Rescue Plan Gene Sperling, Deputy Assistant to the President for Infrastructure Implementation Samantha Silverberg, Deputy Directors of Gun Violence Prevention Greg Jackson and Rob Wilcox.
