Recovering
Homes and Small Businesses
- Contact your insurance company and report any damage you have sustained to Vermont 211 by calling 2-1-1 or visiting this website and filling out the residential damage form and/or the business damage form. This is a crucial step even if the damage is minimal, cumulative reported damage may meet thresholds that will bring more assistance to Vermont.
- In addition to reporting damage to 211, you must also report your damage to disasterassistance.gov/ to receive assistance. You must apply for disaster assistance by October 21, 2024, for damage sustained during the July 9-11, 2024, floods. You can also apply through the FEMA mobile app or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
- FEMA has opened Disaster Recovery Centers at Barre Municipal Auditorium, Brighton Town Hall Gym, Goddard College, Hinesburg Town Hall, Lyndon Public Safety Facility, and Waterbury Armory. Addresses and hours can be found here.
Farms
- Maintain damage documentation to your farm including date-stamped photos, estimated crop loss, and infrastructure damage.
- Report damage, including any damage to your home, on the Vermont 211 website or call 2-1-1. Note that there are different forms to complete for “personal” and for “business” damage. You should also fill out the 2024 Flooding Loss and Damage Survey from the Vermont Agency of Agriculture.
- Contact your county USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Service Center to determine which federal agricultural disaster programs you may qualify for and submit relevant documentation.
- Visit the Vermont Agency of Agriculture website for additional information and resources.
Town and Municipal Leaders
- To apply for federal assistance, town and municipal leaders must submit a Request for Public Assistance in the FEMA Grants Portal by September 19, 2024, for damage sustained during the July 9-11, 2024, floods. More information on applying can be found on the Vermont League of Cities and Towns website.
