WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) joined U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), as well as U.S. Representative Jason Crow (D-Colo.) as part of a bipartisan, bicameral delegation to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to attend the 2023 Halifax International Security Forum. Lawmakers will participate in conversations on U.S. leadership with allies and partners to address the multi-front war on freedom and democracy, along with the global economic, security, and political ramifications of conflicts provoked by authoritarian regimes.
“During a time of escalating international conflict, keeping the lines of communication open with our partners and allies is vital,” said Sen. Welch. “The Halifax International Security Forum provides a strategic opportunity to have direct dialogue on key national security issues. I look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions with this bipartisan delegation to strengthen our global alliances.”
The Halifax International Security Forum was founded in 2009 as part of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. The annual Forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia is attended by global leaders, including policy and thought leaders dealing with international security issues.
