Welch Announces Vermont Will Receive More Than $20 Million in Federal Funds to Support Heating Assistance

Earlier This Week, Welch Helped Deliver Affordable Fuel in Vermont Through Split the Ticket Fund

WOODSTOCK, VT — U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today announced Vermont has received $20,770,801 in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps ensure Vermonters can heat their homes throughout the winter months and also prevents energy shutoffs, provides reconnection services, and offers energy efficiency upgrades. The funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is provided to the State for Fiscal Year 2025 and is a funding priority of Senator Welch and the Vermont Delegation.

Earlier this week, Senator Welch traveled to Woodstock to help the Split the Ticket Fund and Simple Energy deliver fuel to a home for no cost as part of the ‘Split the Ticket’ seasonal program, which provides heating fuel to Vermonters so they can stay warm in the winter months. Split the Ticket is a non-profit organization. Senator Welch has helped raise awareness of the Split the Ticket program in years prior by delivering fuel with local energy companies.

“In Vermont, the cost of heating a home in the winter can be a real challenge for families, and we want folks to know that there are organizations and federal programs available to help now before the temperatures really take a turn. These programs have kept Vermonters safe and eased the burden of high energy bills,” said Senator Welch. “I’m encouraged to see Vermont has access to more LIHEAP funding this fall and will continue to fight for resources to keep families warm throughout the cold Vermont winters.”
