WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) announced the return of the Women’s Economic Opportunity Conference, a tradition that follows 25 years of stewardship by former Senator Patrick Leahy and his wife Marcelle. Senator Welch’s office is pleased to continue this tradition of bringing Vermonters together to learn, network, and build economic opportunity for women in Vermont and across the country.
“Women-led businesses and initiatives are crucial to Vermont’s economy and communities, generating billions of dollars and providing good jobs in our state. There is tremendous opportunity for the women of Vermont to play a greater role in our state, and it’s crucial we tap into that potential. It’s an honor to continue the tradition of the Women’s Economic Opportunity Conference, championed for over two decades by Senator Leahy, and help connect Vermonters to career, networking, and economic opportunities,” said Senator Welch.
“Marcelle and I are thrilled to see the Women’s Economic Opportunity Conference continue in its 27th year. It’s an opportunity for the women of Vermont to collaborate, refine their business skills, and learn from experts and peers alike. Every year, we hear from attendees who come away inspired. We are thankful to Senator Welch, Margaret, his office and the WEOC sponsors for continuing this legacy,” said former Senator Leahy.
“Women drive Vermont’s economy — and they invest their income back into their communities. But the gender pay and opportunity gaps still persist. That’s why convening spaces like WEOC are essential. I’m thankful for Senator and Marcelle Leahy for spearheading the project over 25 years ago and for their dedication to advancing women’s opportunity in our state. I look forward to this year’s conference carrying on Vermont’s tradition of elevating women-led businesses and creating the opportunity for economic skill-building and individual networking,” said Rep. Balint (VT-AL).
The conference will take place on June 8th, 2024, at Vermont State University-Randolph in Randolph, Vermont.
