Welch Rallies with Fired Federal Employees on “Terminated Worker Tuesday,” Vows to Fight Back Against Trump’s Illegal Rampage

Mar 11, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) joined fired federal employees and allies on Capitol Hill to stand up against Elon Musk’s so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) and demand that the Trump Administration immediately rehire federal workers illegally terminated from their jobs. Senator Welch spoke with federal employees who lost their jobs as a result of DOGE’s illegal mass-firing spree and vowed to fight back against President Trump’s lawless rampage.

“Here’s the reality: the President is abusing his power. Trump and Elon Musk’s lawless rampage and mass-firings are not only damaging lives, they are damaging crucial democratic institutions working Americans rely on every day. Federal employees who lost their jobs in recent weeks—some of whom barely got 15 minutes to clean out their desks—are living that reality every single day. They’re fighting like hell to get their jobs back, and we need to meet them more than halfway,” said Senator Welch after the rally. “We need to do everything we can to get these folks back to work. And in order to effectively do that, we need Republicans to step up and help us protect checks and balances so vital to our democracy.”
