BURLINGTON, VT – Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today issued the following statement after the arrest of a suspect in the shooting of three Palestinian-American students in Burlington, Vermont this weekend:
“I am relieved to hear that a suspect has been arrested in the horrific shooting of three Palestinian-American students in Burlington. We are incredibly grateful for the bravery and dedication of our local and federal law enforcement officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who worked quickly to identify the suspect. I will do whatever I can to support the authorities in their investigation of the shooting as a possible hate crime and am following their findings closely.
“As the world has its eyes on Vermont, there’s never been a more important time to demonstrate our Vermont values. Our sense of community and commitment to inclusion makes Vermont strong.”
