Welch Statement on Passage of Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act

Jul 30, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C.Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today released the following statement on the Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act, legislation that provides families with the resources needed to protect children’s health and welfare online. The bipartisan bill passed the Senate this afternoon with overwhelming support:

“The last time Congress passed a law to protect the safety and privacy of our kids and grandkids was 1998—long before today’s oldest teens were babies and before we all walked around with small computers in our pockets. The lives of our kids are fully integrated with the internet—from the minute they wake up to the minute they go to sleep, from homework to their social lives. I supported the Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act today because taking on Big Tech and safeguarding children and teens’ online privacy is an issue we can all find common ground on.”

Senator Welch was a cosponsor of the bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act and the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act.
