BURLINGTON, VT—Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today released the following statement on the death of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas and architect of the October 7th attack on Israel:
“Yahya Sinwar was a cruel terrorist who had no regard for human life—he was responsible for the horrific October 7th attacks, kidnapped and murdered hostages, and sacrificed the lives of countless innocent people in Gaza whom he used as human shields. Sinwar’s death is welcome news.
“Israel must immediately declare a ceasefire and work to safely return the hostages.
“Israel must also accept its responsibility to immediately surge humanitarian and medical assistance to the Palestinians on the brink of starvation and disease.”
